Canada flagFor those of you who have not already heard, Canadian Consular Agent Lynne Benoit has retired after 20 years service, effective as of January 1, 2014.  She is moving back up to Canada in June.  Her replacement has not yet been named.

    RE Lynne Benoit: Hope her replacement speaks English as a FIRST language. Communicating at that office was an ongoing, frustrating challenge for many people.

    While I never dealt with Lynne, I don’t think it should matter if English or French is the FIRST language, as you say, as long as the person is bilingual (English/French) preferably trilingual including Spanish. People have accents – Jean Chretien had an accent – that didn’t prevent him from being an effective Prime Minister – and I think it is part of the beauty and foundation of our great country.
