Painfully slow

DSC01651The work at the plaza – which stopped yet again! – has now re-started.  This follows upon representation being made by local merchants and residents in the local press and social  media.  The team of 10 workers – far from the reported initial flury of activity – are now proceeding at a more resigned pace.  Manny Venegas, President of the Committee of Works explained: “The company re-started on their own budget, that’s why it’s so slow.”

Remember, this work started on 11 December 2013 with a sheduled finish date of 23 January 2014.  They are now digging up right outside the length of Restaurant Miguel Angel which overlooks the construction site – for the second time.  According to Sr Miguel Angel, this is apparently to bury power and telephone cables. It has adversely affected his business and  he said: “I just want for this to be finished.”  The latest target, according to him, is “before Easter”.    Just a few weeks away before the crowds come, does he think they will make the deadline?  He gave the Mexican shrug.
