CALL TO ORDER AND INTRODUCTIONS / Llamado al orden y presentaciones:

The meeting was called to order by President Ronnie Barker at 9:49 am, and she began the meeting by announcing the loss of one of Amigos’ most esteemed members, Judi Conrad, who recently lost her valiant battle with cancer. Judi was the founder of the Bucerias Bilingual Community Center and was a valued member of our expat community. She combined classy with feisty.

La junta fuellamada al orden por la presidenta Ronnie Barker a las 9.49 am, y ella inicio la junta anunciando la pérdida de una de las más estimadas miembros de Amigos, Judi Conrad, Quien recientemente perdió la lucha contra el cancer. Judi fue fundadora del BBCC y fue un valioso miembro de la comunidad de extranjeros, además de tener mucha clase y ser una luchadora. 

Numerous new members and visitors were welcomed. Gran número de nuevos miembros y visitantes fueron bienvenidos. 

Everyone was urged to reserve their breakfast by replying to the invitations sent out, by 6pm on the preceding Thursday, and then if unable to attend, to write accordingly.

Se pidio a todos que se reserve el desayuno por medio del correo en que se hace la invitación, a las 6 pm el Jueves anterior, y de cancelar si no le será posible asistir. 

SECRETARY’S REPORT / Reporte del secretario :

Secretary Karen Knapp asked if members had read the minutes from the November meeting and if there were any necessary changes or additions. There being none, Brus Westby made the motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Dee Haklin and approved unanimously by a show of hands.

She reminded members that today was the final date for nominations to be submitted to her for the Executive Committee for 2015.

La secretaria Karen Knapp preguntó si los miembros han leido las minutas de noviembre y si tienen algun cambio que consideren necesario o algo que añadir. No habiendo alguna, Brus Westby propuso la moción para aprobar las minutas, seguido por Dee Haklin y aprobada de forma unánime por medio de manos levantadas. Recordó a los miembros que el día de hor fue la fecha final para registrar nominaciones para el comité ejecutivo 2015.

 TREASURER’S REPORT / Reporte del tesorero :

Treasurer Dick Pickup reviewed November finances for the association and reminded members that they can receive a report by sending an email to rp_in_pv@yahoo.com  There were no questions so Kim Cable moved to approve the Treasurer’s report, Jennie Roden seconded, and the report was approved unanimously by a show of hands. 

El tesorero Dick Pickup revisó las finanzas de noviembre para la asociación y recordó a los miembros que pueden recibir un reporte enviando un correo a la dirección del parrafo anterior. No habiendo más preguntas, Kim Cable propuso aprobar el reporte de tesorería, Jennie Roden secondó la moción, y fue aprobado unánimemente por votación de manos.

AMIGOS’ PROJECTS UPDATES / Avances de proyectos de Amigo´s :

Beach Cleanup / Limpieza de playas :

Ronnie mentioned a conversation with a passing tourist at the last cleanup which is reported on the website. She mentioned the first municipality-sponsored Sports Day on the beach, which appealed to young people, encouraging them to clean up the beaches. When they were finished, the beach was immaculate. The Sports Days will rotate from one town to another.

Ronnie mencionó una conversación con un turista durante la última limpieza de playas que está referido en la página web. Menciono que el municipio realizó el primer día de limpiezas de playas, patrocinado, que está dirigido a los jóvenes, promoviendo la limpieza, cuando termino, la playa estaba inmaculada. Este día de deportes estará rotando de uno a otro pueblo.

 Recycling / Reciclaje

Ronnie reported the new total of recycled plastic since April 2013 – 16,558 kilos. Ronnie noted that a man in a late model white truck has been emptying the recycling baskets just prior to scheduled pickups. While she does not begrudge someone in need from sharing in the proceeds from our efforts, this person does not appear to fit that criteria, and a local lawyer is prepared to intervene. Ronnie reminded members that recycling proceeds go back into the community, and asked that anyone witnessing this thievery take a picture, including the license plate, and send it to her.

Ronnie reportó que el total de plástico reciclado desde abril 2013 es : 16,558 kilos. Ronnie hizo notar que un señor en una pickup blanca, modelo no reciente, ha estado colectando los contenedores de plástico justo antes de los días de recolección agendados. Ella no se queja de que alguien con necesidad esté aprovechando los esfuerzos realizados para la colecta, esta persona no parece ajustarse a dicho criterio, y un abogado local está listo para intervenir. Ronnie recordó a los miembros que lo recaudado del rubro de reciclaje se regresa a la comunidad, y pidio que quien sea testigo de este robo, tome una foto, incluyendo la placa, y se le envíe a ella. 

Street lights /Alumbrado público :

Dick Pickup reported that work on street light repairs has been suspended until local government makes a decision regarding replacing all streetlights with new LED models. Members were asked to continue reporting malfunctioning streetlights, however, to Dick Pickup at: buceriasstreetlights@gmail.com

Dick Pickup reportó que el trabajo en alumbrado público ha sido suspendido hasta que las autoridades locales tomen una decisión acerca de si reemplazarán las lámparas con los nuevos modelos LED. Se solicitó a los miembros que continúen reportando lámparas descompuestas, al correo indicado en el párrafo anterior.

 Street signs / Letreros en calles:

Ronnie reported that progress has been made with new street signs, athough the boundaries of various colonias on the mountain side of the highway are creating some delay and confusion.

Ronnie reportó el avance que se ha logrado en este rubro, aunque realmente los límites de varias colonias en el lado de las montañas, está creando cierta tardanza y confusión.

 ASSOCIATES’ REPORTS / Reportes de asociados :

Human Connections:

Alex McCue reported that their current activities include tours (with proceeds going to teach street vendors English) and plan to begin teaching Spanish classes Libby Gaffney spoke of the “Hands Across the Highway” event on December 15.

Alex McCue reportó sus actividades actuales que incluyen tours (cuyos beneficios se utilizan para enseñar inglés a los vendedores de la calle) y planea iniciar a enseñar español. Libby Gaffney hablo sobre el evento “manos a traves de la autopista” del día 15 de diciembre.

 John Ozzello Memorial Food Bank / Baco de alimentos en memoria de John Ozzello:

Sandy Nystrom reported that the food bank distributes 195 dispensas monthly, with 345 in December, plus 75 for Valle. She spoke of the December JOMFB events, only 10 tickets left for the whale watching February 4,and an Afternoon with the Beatles, February 12. She thanked everyone who has supported the food bank, and especially Glenn and Tanya from Yo-Yo’s and The Drunken Duck.

Sandy Nystrom reportó que el banco de comida distribuye 195 despensas mensualmente, con 345 en diciembre, mas 75 para Valle. Ella hablo del evento de Diciembre de JOMFB, solo quedan 10 boletos para el evento de observación de ballenas del día 4 de febrero, y en la tarde con los Beatles, del 12 de febrero. Agradeció a todos los que han ayudado al banco de alimentos y especialmente Glenn y Tanya de Yo´yo´s y el Drunken Duck.

 Biblioteca Rey Nayar Children’s Library /Biblioteca infantil Rey Nayar

Laurie Moffat thanked everyone who had brought supplies when they returned. She said the sale of a calendar keeps the doors open for a day. Laurie said their computers had all become nonfunctional and new computers (non-laptops) are needed. They also needed some help with gardening in the near future. The children’s posada was that afternoon.

Laurie Moffat agradeció a todos los que han traido donaciones en su regreso. Dijo que la venta de calendarios mantiene las puertas abiertas día a día. Laurie dijo que las computadoras se han vuelto obsoletas, y nuevas computadoras (no laptops) son necesarias. Ellos tambien necesitarán ayuda con la jardinería en el futuro. La posada de los niños fue esa tarde.

 Manos de Amor:

Estelle Neubling announced a Disco Party/Dance competition fundraiser to support MdA on December 18 at Breakers. Free lessons were scheduled for December 11.

Estelle Neubling anunció una fiesta disco, y competencia de baile para recaudar fondos para Manos de Amor el día 18 de diciembre en Breakers. Lecciones gratis están programadas para el 11 de diciembre.

  OTHER BUSINESS / Otros asuntos :

  • Amigos’ web page – Ronnie announced that the VIP for December was Mark McMahon from Mark’s Restaurant. She reminded everyone to check on “Kaleidoscope” for the “Hola Brus” column and “Tips for Growing Older.” Anyone who wished to contribute to the web page was welcome.

La página de amigos- Ronnie anunció al personaje VIP de diciembre, Mark McMahon, de restaurante        Marks.   Recordó a todos revisar las secciones Kaleidoscopio, la columna tips para envejecer.  

  • Bucerias  Christmas Children’s Program – Jennie Roden announced a fundraiser to be held on Monday, December 8 at The Drunken Duck. The proceeds will purchase toys for 1200 Bucerias children, and help will be needed to wrap the presents on December 19 for distribution on December 24. This is the program started by Ron and Arlene Tackett 20 years ago.

            Programa de navidad para niños de Bucerías – Jennie Roden anunció un evento para recaudar fondos el   lunes 8 de diciembre, en Drunken duck. Lo recaudado será destinado para comprar juguetes para 1200 niños de Bucerías, y solicito ayuda para envolver los regalos el 19 de diciembre, para entrega el día 24. Este programa fue iniciado por Ron y Arlene Tacket hace 20 años.   

  • El Buzo Sculpture – Cara Anderson announced the First Annual El Buzo Festival to be held December 21 in the El Centro Plaza from 3-11. She explained the history of the new El Buzo sculpture and that funds would be raised to repay the anonymous donor who paid the sculptor Octavio Gonzales.

             Escultura el buzo- Cara Anderson anunció el primer festival annual “el buzo” a celebrarse el día 21 de diciembre en el centro plaza de 3 a 11. Ella explicó la historia de la escultura de el buzo, y que los fondos será para pagar al donante anónimo que financió al escultor Octavio Gonzales.  

  • Amigos’ Discount Program – Ronnie gave a brief history of the Amigos’ 10% discount program with local merchants, noting that the list of participants was outdated. A decision needed to be made whether to continue, especially in light of the increased numbers of fundraisers that ask for local business donations. Following a brief discussion, Dick Pickup made a motion to discontinue the program and Jim Haklin seconded. It passed unanimously by a show of hands. Brus and Jean Westby volunteered to speak with each business currently on the list and inform them that the program had been discontinued.

            Programa de descuentos de amigos – Ronnie dio una breve reseña de la historia de amigos y el programa de 10 % con comerciantes locales, nada que los participantes no conocieran. Se tuvo que tomar la decisión de si continuar o no, especialmente viendo el aumento en la cantidad de eventos de beneficencia que también piden a los negocios locales donaciones. Después de una breve discusión, Dick Pickup propuso descontinuar el programa, y Jim Haklin lo apoyo. Pasó de forma unánime por medio de manos levantadas.  

  • A question was asked regarding the spay and neuter program’s next Pets’ Picnic and Ronnie responded that it is scheduled for Sunday February 15, 2015.

            Una pregunta fue hecha acerca del programa de esterilización de animales, y el próximo picnic de mascotas, y Ronnie respondió que está programado para febrero 15, 2015. 

  • John Forget spoke about the need for assistance for Nana’s House in Tepic,which takes in abused and abandoned children from all of Nayarit, including Bucerias. A fundraiser will be held at La Fuente Church, Bucerias, on December 13.

           John Forget hablo acerca de la necesidad de asistencia de casa nana en Tepic, que ayuda a niños abandonados y victimas de abuso de todo Nayarit, incluyendo Bucerías. Un evento de beneficencia será realizado en la iglesia La Fuente, Bucerías el 13 de diciembre.  

  • Ronnie noted that Sean had space left in his beginning Spanish class that starts 05 January. Contact mulmex@gmail.com

            Ronnie hizo notar que Sean tiene espacios disponibles en sus clases de español, inician el 5 de enero. Se puede contactar en el correo de este párrafo. 

  • Ronnie reminded members to be prepared in case they had to call for police or ambulance by writing out what needs to be said in correct Spanish and keeping it by the phone. There was no progress with the change in status on the water bills. The southbound lateral potholes have been repaired.

            Ronnie recordó a los miembros estar preparados en el caso de que tengan que llamar a la policía o ambulancia, escribiendo lo que debe ser dicho en español correctamente, y tenerlo cerca del teléfono.

  •  Mario Topete noted that he and others had spent the last 18 months working with the municipality to get streets fixed: neighbors provided the materials and the municipality provided the labor. There was now an interest in repairing/renovating the pedestrian bridge that crosses the arroyo from Lazaro Cardenas, i.e., The Kissing Bridge. Mario asked the members to consider “adopting” the bridge and raising funds for the project. 

            Mario Topete hizo notar que el y otros han pasado los últimos 18 meses trabajando con el municipio para que sean arregladas las calles: Los vecinos proveen el material y el municipio provee la mano de obra. No hubo ahora interes en repararrenovar el puente peatonal que cruza el arroyo de lazaro Cárdenas, o Puente del Beso. Mario pidió a los miembros que consideren adoptar el puente y recauden recursos para el proyecto.

  •  Gaby Ulloa confirmed that a new Delegado (mayor) for Bucerias, Juan Antonio Macius Vargas, will be installed January 1. His nickname is “Tony Veneno”.

            Gaby Ulloa confirmó que un nuevo Delegado para Bucerías, Juan Antonio Macius Vargas, será instituido a partir de enero 1. Su apodo es Tony Veneno

  •  Ronnie reminded members to be an ambassador for Bucerias by greeting visitors and asking them if they needed assistance.

Ronnie recordó a los miembros ser un embajador de Bucerías, saludando a visitantes y preguntando si necesitan asistencia. 

  • Amigos next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting required of all civil associations by Mexican law, and all attending members will be asked to officially sign in. Elections will be conducted, the meeting will be adjourned and the regular monthly meeting will resume.

            La próxima junta de amigos sera la Junta general annual, requerida para todas las asociaciones por la ley mexicana, y todos los miembros que asistan serán registrados. Las elecciones serán llevadas a cabo, la junta cerrara y la junta mensual regular se llevará a cabo.

Attendees gave a round of applause to Pierre and his staff for a delicious breakfast; thanks to Ross for providing the sound system and John Forget for setting it up.

Los asistentes dieron un aplauso a Pierre y staff por el delicioso desayuno, agradecieron a Ross por el sistema de sonido y a John Forget por instalarlo. 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 11:06 am.  No habiendo otros temas, la junta terminó a las 11.06 am.
